What to put on a babysitter invoice

  • Your name or business name, and your address.
  • Your client's name and address.
  • A unique invoice number. Keep them in order so they are easy to track.
  • The invoice date, and the date you supplied the goods or services if it is different.
  • A description of what you supplied, with quantities and prices.
  • The total amount due and the date it should be paid by.
  • How to pay you, such as your bank details.
  • If you are VAT registered: your VAT number, the tax point, the VAT rate and the VAT amount.
  • The dates and hours of each shift, so the family can check them.
  • Your hourly rate, and any extra charge for late nights or more than one child.
  • Travel costs on their own line if you charge for them.

Questions

What should a babysitting invoice say?

The dates and hours worked, your hourly rate and the total. Add your bank details so the family can pay you.

Can I charge extra for late nights?

Yes. Put the extra as its own line, such as "Late finish after midnight".

Is it okay to invoice a family?

Yes. Use the parent or guardian's name as the client. An invoice gives you both a record.

Do I need to charge VAT?

No, unless you are VAT registered, which is very unlikely for babysitting.
