What to put on a hairdresser invoice

  • Your name or business name, and your address.
  • Your client's name and address.
  • A unique invoice number. Keep them in order so they are easy to track.
  • The invoice date, and the date you supplied the goods or services if it is different.
  • A description of what you supplied, with quantities and prices.
  • The total amount due and the date it should be paid by.
  • How to pay you, such as your bank details.
  • If you are VAT registered: your VAT number, the tax point, the VAT rate and the VAT amount.
  • Each service with its price, such as colour, cut or styling.
  • Products sold, listed separately from services.
  • If you rent a chair, the invoice goes from you to the client, not the salon.

Questions

Do mobile hairdressers send invoices?

They can. An invoice is useful for events, weddings and any client who wants a record, such as a business paying for staff.

Can I invoice for a group booking?

Yes. List each service with the number of people as the quantity.

Should products be a separate line?

Yes. That keeps services and retail clear on the invoice.

Do I charge VAT?

Only if you are VAT registered. Many self-employed hairdressers are not.
