What to put on a UK invoice
- Your name or business name, and your address.
- Your client's name and address.
- A unique invoice number. Keep them in order so they are easy to track.
- The invoice date, and the date you supplied the goods or services if it is different.
- A description of what you supplied, with quantities and prices.
- The total amount due and the date it should be paid by.
- How to pay you, such as your bank details.
- If you are VAT registered: your VAT number, the tax point, the VAT rate and the VAT amount.
- Amounts in pounds sterling, unless you agreed another currency with your client.
- A clear payment due date. Many UK businesses use 14 or 30 days.

Questions
What must a UK invoice include?
Your name and address, your client's name and address, a unique invoice number, the date, a description of what you supplied and the amount due. If you are VAT registered it also needs your VAT number and the VAT charged.
Do I have to charge VAT on a UK invoice?
Only if you are VAT registered. If you are not, leave tax switched off and do not show a VAT number.
Can I invoice in a currency other than pounds?
Yes. Pick another currency from the list and every amount follows.
